Player Equipment

The following is a list of the equipment a ringette player needs to wear while on the ice: 

• CSA approved hockey helmet

• Ringette face mask - the kind with the triangular openings - Leave all of the stickers on!

• BNQ approved neck protector

• Shoulder pads/Chest protector (The WRL highly recommends that every player wear shoulder pads)

• Elbow pads

• Protective (i.e. hockey) gloves

• Girdle (hip/tailbone/genital protector)

• Jill strap (if girdle is other than a ringette girdle)

• Shin guards

• Hockey/ringette skates (no picks)

• Ringette pants

• Ringette stick

• Practice jersey

Equipment should be dried after each use. A small cloth should be part of each player’s bag for wiping skates and sticks should be carried so the playing end does not bang on the ground.

Sticks

Ringette sticks are made specifically for the sport. The tip should be tapered over 250 mm. Maximum and 17 to 25 mm. X 27 to 35 mm.  The maximum length permitted for a player stick is measured by the distance from the ice to under the player’s armpit while standing straight on the ice in their skates.  Individual players may prefer a shorter stick. The playing end of a Ringette stick consists of the lower one-third of the total length of the player's stick (goal stick excluded) as measured from the playing tip upwards towards the butt end and must be free of tape. 

Jewelry

Ringette Canada Official Rules prohibit players from wearing ANY jewelry, with the exception of Medic Alert bracelets.  It is 100% within the discretion of the On-ice Official to have players remove earrings, necklaces, bracelets, piercings, rings, watches, etc.

Parents should keep this rule in mind when considering what time of year to permit first piercings.
